Hello!
My Chrome Country has all of a sudden a strange and not so funny behaviar, the motor dies suddenly and is impossible to start, then wait one or two hour then the car runs perfect again for a while...and then the motor stoppes again.
I have just towed the car back to my house and try to find the problem.
When the car doesent work, the fuelpump is not making any sound, is there a known week part i the fuelsupply system?
Of course the car runs perfectly now when i try to troubleshoot.
Is there anyone that know how the fuelpump i controlled, becaused i measured the voltage to the pump while the ignition was on and it was 12VDC, but after 2-3 seconds the pressure is up (i guess) and the pump is silent and then i have 0VDC to the pump, is there some controll box that feel the pressure? in the Haynes manual there is just a relay which seems to be supplied directly from ignition key, however the reality seems more complex.
Please feel free to answer in German i can read but writing is difficult.

Dear Thord,
it is usual, that the pump is going after the dignition on for 3 seconds, but than the controller must switch the relay, to steering pump. Pull the relay number 53 on the relayplace 3 and connect the pins 4 and 6, and start the engine. What`s now? _________________ Grüsse aus Mari__bor_

Thanks for your reply, i can test your suggestion when the car stoppes.
This afternoon i have driven the car in my neighborhood for half an hour with 2 Voltmeter hooked up, one is connected in the rear to measure voltage to fuelpump, the otherone is connected to relay nr 12 pin 85 wich i belive is grounding through Digifant to start fuelpump, unfortunately the car runs perfectly...i start and stopped it at least 50 times...Tomorrow i will try more.
I found a VW Digifant manual on the web, it´s for digifant I and II, but i don't know what the Country has I or II perhaps maybe something else?

Now the Car and the fuelpump is dead... I try to jumper pin 4-6 on relay 3 but the fault remain.
I also measured the voltage on relay 12 pin 85 when everything works it´s around OV but now i have 12V so it´s an "open circuit" now.
As far as i can understand it´s grounded through pin 3 on the Digifant II, so maybe the Digifant is defective?

It`s possible. But the ground on pin 3 is only present, when you start the engine. The Digifant responds on the signal of the engine speed signal of the hallunit in the ignition distributor. _________________ Grüsse aus Mari__bor_

How about the first 3 seconds, shouldn't the pin 3 ground the relay also then?

The last day the problem has been permanetely, so i decided to open the Digifant box and i change the transistor that controls the fuelpump relay, but the problem remains, i have not figured out yet what is controlling the transitor, it's not so easy without schematics. I can test 4-6 on relay 12 tomorrov, I dont know if it´s possible to buy a new Digifant if it's beyond repair... Is this Digifant special made for country?

hallo Thord
i had the same problem after i reasemble my country, but i cant remember the reason for this foult.
I think the problem was corosion on an conector.
The best is, you send me your EMail adress, so i send you an wiring diagram from the contry. So you see which cables and relays are posibille for this problem.

Dear Bernd,
When i bridge power contacts 4-6 on relay 12, the car runs perfect, so the Digifant must be defective, and i have soldered testwire directly to pin 3 to be able to see exactly what happens, and i get 12 volt constant on pin 3.
I have found some used boxes on ebay which i will try to buy, do you think it´s ok to use the car with the relay bridged untill i have a new digifant?

i thin kyou are right!
Please look at the diagramm in the SSP 087 that i send.
You will see the pin 3 on Digifant ist switched to ground and controled the relays.
Test an another Digifant and you know are right.

STOP at all!!!
now i show the country wiring diagram!!!!
Relay 3 is only controled by the ignition key!!!!!
when you bridge pin 4 to 6 and the car runs, so ist only the relay broken or you have no POWER 15 on relays pin 3
Otherwise the relaysboard ist defective.
Sorry. now i see page 3 is missing, i send another wiring diagram.

Er hat ja das Kraftstoffpumpenrelais Relaisplatz 12 gebrückt und der Motor lief, Brücken am Spannungsversorgungsrelais, Platz 3 hat nichts gebracht, soweit ich verstanden habe. Und am Kontakt 3 des KS Relais kommt keine geschaltete Masse an. _________________ Grüsse aus Mari__bor_

A little update... I bought a used Digifant 2H from a cabrio on Ebay and the car has worked very well for at least three days so far...
