Dear All,
Does anybody know differences in gas driven VWs? There is
1.6 Polos available in natural gas(Erdgas) option. Is it viable
to modifiy Country with such equipment?
It looked that Polo had different engine or is it just auxialliaries?
Or is there difference inside engine, like lower compression ratio, etc?
It is vary favorable have gas driven car in Finland, but not many
choises exists.
Many thaks for any insights I can get.

natural gas is usually no option for retrofitting a car. Natural gas is stored at high pressure (200bar) and needs strong and heavy cylinder tanks.
Propane/butane (Liquified petroleum gas, LPG) is ideal for retrofitting. It is stored as a liquid at 5-15 bar, and is vaporized for combustion. Tanks are light and fit into the place of the spare wheel (what is not used in the country!)
A venturi or injection system is required on the engine for both options. Every Otto engine can be converted to gas, except the latest FSI types. The 1P engine of the country is no problem at all. Prizes start from 2000€ for the complete system including installation in germany. |

Thank you Dietrich. That was good information. LPG is not as
good choise as natural gas in Finland due to tax difference.
I was thinking, if one would buy Erdgas Polo and fit gas system
to Country from there. I think installation must be done by licenced
gas installion company, but is the components suitable for Country?
Is gastank in Polo over back seat?
Appricate any input.

I´m not sure about the Polo, but natural gas tanks are usually fitted under the floor because they are that heavy. Putting them high will raise the center of gravity of the car too much. |
